KEOTA – With a score of 10-8, you’d suppose that the softball game between Keota and Montezuma was a slugfest.
And, you would be correct.
The Bravettes outhit Keota 12-11, but the category that counts most is runs and Keota was tops there, 10-8, on Friday, June 20.
Montezuma went up 2-0 in the first inning.
Keota plated five runs in the third, then 3 in the sixth to take a 10-7 lead. . . and held on.
Ellen Cook went 3-for-4 at the plate and knocked in two runs for Montezuma.
Chloe Snook was three-for-five, with two runs scored.
Kamryn Schmidt went two for three, stroking a pair of doubles and also driving in two runs.
Syd Burgess, Mya Smothers, Vivian Cook and Lily Ferry each had one hit.
Vivian hit a double, and Ferry hit a single and stole a base.
Snook swiped three bases in four attempts.
The Bravettes were guilty of a modest two errors on a night the softball was flying above and across the grounds.
Leah Urfer worked six innings in the circle for the Bravettes. She gave up 11 hits and 10 runs, all of which were earned. She walked seven and struck out four.
The Bravettes fell to 4-7 on the season, while Keota advanced to 7-5.
