VICTOR – The Bravettes were detail-oriented in covering the basics, and it was good for a 62-20 win over HLV on Tuesday evening, Jan. 17.

The win sent Montezuma to 13-1 overall and to 10-1 in conference play.

The Bravettes gradually got up to speed, outscoring HLV 42-7 after intermission after leading by a more modest 20-13 at halftime.

We had a great first half, but did not make shots,” said Montezuma Coach Janel Burgess.

Guard Mia Boulton led three double figures scorers with 19 points. She added six assists as the Bravettes assisted 12 of their 21 field goals.

We continued to do what Bravettes do by playing solid defense and shooting the open shots,” Burgess said.

Montezuma finished with .375 shooting, but held the Warriors to a .200 percentage. The Bravettes helped to force 21 turnovers, while making just six themselves.

As we continued to persevere, the baskets started to fall and the dynamics of the game changed,” Burgess said.

Montezuma outscored HLV 24-4 in the third quarter, to go out to a 44-17 lead.

Shiressa Wetering was the third player in double figures with 10 points.

Madison Johannes scored 18 points and was six-for-11 from three-point range, as the Bravettes dropped in 13 of 38 attempts from behind the arc.

We are extremely proud of our growth. Now, we get to host Lynnville-Sully on Friday and continue to grow,” the coach said.

The result left HLV at 4-10 and 3-7.
