NORTH ENGLISH – The Montezuma Bravettes had four double figures scorers in a 63-27 run past English Valleys in an SICL game Tuesday evening, Jan. 5.
The win kept the Bravettes, 11-1 overall, unbeaten at 10-0 in league play.
The game wound up being a chance for both teams to work on their half-court games after the Bravettes jumped to an 11-1 first quarter lead and didn’t press their now 2-5 (2-4 league) opponent.
The Bravettes splashed down nine three-point baskets.
Shanae Weterling scored 16 points for the Bravettes on six-for-seven shooting from the field. That included two-for-three from behind the three-point arc for the 5-11 junior.
Dylan Holland had a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing a dozen rebounds. She also had four steals.
Elise Boulton scored 14 points and had eight assists as the Bravettes assisted 14 of their 25 field goals.
Mia Boulton went four-for-eight from three-point range and scored 12 points.
Madison Johannes grabbed seven rebounds, second high on the team. When you’re the shortest player on the floor, that means you were blocking out and going for the basketball. Johannes also assisted three baskets, had two steals and two points.
The Bravettes got a little sloppy with some passes in the second quarter and took a 24-9 lead into halftime.
But Montezuma pushed the ball more in the third quarter and got back into a good offensive rhythm. The Bravettes rang up 24 points and led 48-16 after three quarters.
The Bravettes had 12 turnovers to the Bears’ 15. But with Holland and Johannes controlling rebounds, Montezuma was in charge of tempo.
