Girls keep working on track goals

TAMA – Sharpening the saw.

You’ve heard that term before, and that’s what Montezuma’s girls track team was doing during the South Tama Invitational meet on Tuesday, April 27.

The season continues to march on, as do the Bravettes,” said Coach Megan Carlson.

The focus at South Tama was on refinements: Blocks, hurdles, handoffs and field events.”

The girls were not stretched very thin, but worked and competed hard,” she said.

The Bravettes placed second in a six-team field. Hudson, a larger school, put up 167 points to win, with the Bravettes scoring 100.

Montezuma won two events. Coral Lowry stepped off the 100-meter hurdles in a quick 17.95 seconds.

The other victory was in the sprint medley, where Lowry, Izzy Roorda, Alivia Cline and Katie Reynolds won in 2:02.81.

The Bravettes were second or third in six relay events.

Lowry and Carmen Klos tied for second in the high jup at 4-6.

Dylan Holland was second in the shot put at 31-10.

Reynoldx was second in the 200 at 28.66, and Elise Boulton was third at 3,000 meters in 12:32.00.

It was great to see how we are responding to challenges and pressure,” Carlson said.

Katie Reynolds is flying around the curve at the South Tama meet.

The coach also noted it was good “to learn what we need to work on to continue to be successful toward the end of the season.”

I am proud of the ability of the girls to support each other in using meets as moments to grow,” she said. “The pressure is starting to be felt by many now, but we need to stay steady and continue working toward our goals, one event and one meet at a time.”
