Girls leap off porch and bark at Sigourney

MONTEZUMA – Montezuma’s softball and baseball teams held their own with formidable Sigourney teams on Friday, June 13.

Both the Bravettes and Braves fell by just two runs, and maintained a threat throughout seven innings of play.

Sigourney scored a 5-3 win in softball.

The Savages scored twice in the first inning.

Montezuma scored all three of its runs in the third to take the lead.

Sigourney plated three run in the top of the seventh and held on for the victory.

The Savages went to 9-3 overall, and to 9-0 in SICL play.

Vivian Cook went three-for-four at the plate for the Bravettes, who managed six safeties in all.

Chloe Snook was two-for-three.

Syd Burgess had one hit and drove in two runs.

Montezuma stole five bases, including two by Mya Smothers.

The Bravettes were guilty of four errors.

Leah Urfer pitched all seven innings. She yielded 11 hits and 5 runs, 4 of them earned.

She walked no one and struck out 6.

Josephine Moore was the hitting and pitching star for Sigourney.

Moore went 3-for-4 at the plate and hit a double.

Dani Aller had two hits. Devin Smallwood also had two hits and drove in three runs for the Savages.

Moore pitched a 7-inning complete game, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, of which none were earned. She walked 6 and struck out 7.

The Bravettes went to 3-5 on the season after dropping their third straight two-run decision.

Sigourney is 9-3 overall.
