NEW SHARON – The Warhawks were constantly on the attack against Montezuma, and a result was a 3-0 varsity volleyball win over the Bravettes on Monday evening, Sept. 12.
North Mahaska had plenty of swings at the ball. The Warhawks totaled 116 attempts for the match, to Montezuma’s 61.
The Bravettes did have a chance in set one to gain momentum.
Montezuma jumped out to an 8-4 lead, but the Warhawks caught up and went ahead. But the Bravettes went on a 7-0 run that gave them the lead again. They extended it to 24-21.
Despite needing just one point, Montezuma was unable to get it.
North Mahaska got the Bravettes leading one way, then attacked another. The Warhawks outscored the Bravettes 6-1 and took the opener, 27-25.
After that, Montezuma spent a lot of time on defense.
North Mahaska closed out the win with set victories of 25-16 and 25-19.
The Warhawks had 33 assists on their 34 kills. Montezuma’s numbers were 16 and 16.
Elizabeth De Jong had 25 digs for the Bravettes.
Chloe Snook had nine assists and Izzy Roorda had seven.
The defeat was the first in South Iowa Cedar League play against one win. Overall, the Bravettes are 6-9.
North Mahaska went to 9-5 and 2-0.
JV team wins – Montezuma was a 2-1 winner in junior varsity play, on scores of 14-21, 21-18 and 15-8.
F-S team, too – Montezuma’s freshman-sophomore squad beat North Mahaska, 2-0.
UP NEXT – The Bravettes play again on Monday, Sept. 19, hosting Lynnville-Sully.
