Girls now return to their peer group

GRUNDY CENTER – Soon (like Tuesday, May 3), the Bravettes will know if nights like Friday, April 29, were good for them.

How’s that?

On a dreary Friday, the Bravettes ran against some of the best girls competition in the northeast quadrant of Iowa – regardless of class.

There were plenty of “rabbits” out there for the girls to chase, to compete against, to post good times in so doing.

At any rate, this running against strong teams prior to the South Iowa Cedar League meet on May 3, came to and end. Will it pay off? The Bravettes were anxious to find out.

North Linn (99 points), Grundy Center (92) and Waverly-Shell Rock (91), were like mighty she-dinosaurs shaking the earth from the top down.

The Bravettes were 10th out of 12 teams with 30 points. Belle Plaine, the other SICL team there, was one behind them with 29.

Montezuma senior sprinter Katie Reynolds can compete in any class, which she proved again in this meet.

She placed third in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes, all with good, competitive times: 13.57 in the 100, 28.37 in the 200, and 1:08.75 in the 400.

Reynolds scored 19.5 of Montezuma’s 30 team points. No other Bravette had more than 1.25.

Now comes the peer group, the SICL teams.
