Girls open post-season with Highland

The Montezuma Bravettes start their post-season bid at home on Tuesday evening, Feb. 15, with 12-10 Highland coming in for a Class 1A regional first round game.

The game starts at 7 p.m. and will be live streamed. If you’re planning to attend, you will need to purchase tickets online in advance.

Beating the 17-4 Bravettes to rebounds could be the issue for Highland, which isn’t a tall team.

Abbi Stransky, a 5-6 junior, is a 12.8 scorer who averages 8.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists.

Sarah Burton, 5-9, averages 11.0 points, .576 on field goal shooting, and 8.9 rebounds.

Dani Laughlin, a 5-5 sophomore, scores 9.5 points per contest.

Highland outscores it opponents by an average of 46 to 41.

For the Bravettes, those numbers are 55 and 33.

Clarke University signee Shanae Wetering, 5-11, averages 15.1 points and .434 field goal shooting. She averages 6.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists.

Mia Boulton averages 13.1 points, .418 from behind the three-point arc, and 3.0 assists.

Ellen Cook averages 7.4 points and has been emerging as a ball handler and scorer.

Jadyn Sharer averages 3.4 points and is a strong defender and shot-blocker.

Madison Johannes averages 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists, but is a lock-down defender who can sting opponents with her three-point shooting.

HOME AGAIN – Should the Bravettes win, they’re home again for the

regional semifinal on Friday, Feb. 18. They would meet the winner of a game matching 19-3 English Valleys, and 12-11 Sigourney.
