GARWIN – The volleyball Bravettes made final preparations for their conference season by winning two of four matches at the GMG tournament on Saturday, Sept. 11.
The Bravettes made quick work of their two Class 1A opponents. They beat Collins-Maxwell 2-0 on scores of 21-4 and 21-9.
They also knocked off conference rival Lynnville-Sully 2-0. Scores were 21-11 and 21-10.
Montezuma fell short in a return engagement with Class 3A South Tama, which they had battled in a tight full match a few days earlier. South Tama won this one, 2-0, on scores of 21-19 and 26-24.
Then, Class 4A Grinnell beat the Bravettes 2-0, on scores of 21-14 and 21-14.
“We ended up second in our pool and lost in the first round of the championships to a tough Grinnell team,” Montezuma Coach Rylie Little said.
“But overall, it was a great weekend for Bravette volleyball,” the coach said.
“Coming off a close loss at South Tama last week was tough, but the girls fought hard,” Little said. “I’m proud of these girls for fighting throughout the entire day, point after point.”
“We meet up with HLV tonight in Victor. I’m excited to get the conference season started.”
The day’s results left Montezuma with an overall season record of 6-7.
UP NEXT – Montezuma opens SICL play Monday evening, Sept. 13, at HLV.
