BELLE PLAINE – Katie Reynolds enjoyed a spectacular meet. Ellen Cook did well.

The Bravettes in general were at their best at the SICL meet. Trouble was, so were girls at the other schools, and there’s a lot of talent in the league this spring.

The Bravettes scored 76 points to place fourth behind Colfax-Mingo (140), Lynnville-Sully (120) and Belle Plaine (83) at the league meet on a cool Tuesday, May 3.

“This meet is an amazing chance for the girls to compete in the conference and see the growth that has been made thoughout the season,” said Montezuma Coach Megan Carlson.

“We are so pleased with how much the girls have grown and how hard they competed,” Carlson said.

Reynolds won the open 400-meter dash by almost three seconds in 1:05.94.

Katie was second in the 100 at 13.72, and fifth in the 200 at 30.29. She scored 24.5 of Montezuma’s 76 points.

Ellen Cook placed second in both the 1,500 and the 3,200.

Cook clocked 5:43.94 in the 1,500 and was in a battle for the title, before falling back about three seconds at the end. She clocked 12:26.75 in the 3,200.

The Bravettes were second in he sprint medley relay. Time for Camryn Brennan, Kalynn Wanders, Izzy Roorda and Katie Reynolds was 2:04.24.

Montezuma got another second in the 4×100 for throwers, although that race did not count in team scoring.

“Coming away with only one first place finish showed the depth and determination of the girls,” Carlson said. “It was great to see the girls supporting each other and enjoying the night,” she said.

The Bravettes were not able to score major points in the relays as they have in some meets. They came close, and did score two place finishes in several individual events.

“We are proud of all the girls and know that we still have work to do to reach a few more goals,” Carlson said.

UP NEXT – The girls are at the Rick Wanamaker Relays at Iowa Valley on Thursday, May 5.
