GRUNDY CENTER – Montezuma girls track Coach Megan Carlson hoped that the really stiff competition at the Harry Dole Classic on Friday, April 28, would spur her Bravettes to new season-best efforts.
It worked for some. Others approached season’s bests.
Nobody was more into the spirit of it than freshman distance runner Lindsey Henry. She placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run. Her time, 13:35.87, beat her previous best by almost a minute.
Another freshman, sprinter Macy Young, placed ninth in the 100-meter dash. But her time, 14.72, was way better than her previous best of 16.02.
The Bravettes didn’t win or place second in any events.
They got a third in the long jump from freshman Chloe Snook, and third in the 4×400, which included Macy Young, Ellen Cook, Izzy Roorda and Snook.
Otherwise, the Bravettes established new season-bests in six events. Plus, several athletes established bests in events that were new to them.
Overall, the Bravettes were sixth in a loaded 11-team field. They will see how jumping off the porch and running with the big dogs will help them come Tuesday, May 2, at the SICL meet in Brooklyn.
