Girls raise their level of play. . . again!

Sharpening the saw means you’re getting better at what you do.

That’s what the Bravettes worked at in a 3-0 sweep of Sigourney on Senior Night in Montezuma on Monday, Oct. 5.

Scores in Montezuma’s seventh straight win were 25-17, 25-19 and 25-12.

The effort we are playing with is tremendous,” Montezuma’s coaches said in a statement. “They (the girls) are raising the expectations they have for themselves and each other. It is so much fun to watch.”

Statistics were balanced in just about every category, as you can see below.

The ladies are showing so much growth in understanding the game,” the coaches said. “We moved the ball from middle to our outside hitters so freely. They know where we need to put the ball and when,” they said. “We can’t be more proud of their decisions.”

Seniors Kierstyn Price, Dylan Holland and Lauren Klos were honored prior to the match.

Whenever it’s senior night, it can be emotional,” the coaches said. “You never really know how kids will perform.”

To top it off, we played without a starter who has played all year long. (She will be returning later this week),” the coaches said.

So we were also playing with kids a little out of their normal positions.”

Dylan Holland drives for a dig. (Allyson Fillmore file).

The Bravettes served at a 90 percent rate, with eight aces. Five of those came from Price. Allyson Larmore didn’t serve an ace, but she was good on all 18 of her attempts.

Korrinn Kehoe and Ash Krousie led with nine and seven kills, respectively. Reynolds had 26 assists to hitters that were very efficient with kills in this match.

Holland, Katie Reynolds, Krousie and Price all reached double figures in digs.

To sum it up, tonight was a team win in the truest sense of the word,” the coaches said. “It was a great way for the seniors to go out in their final regular season match at home.”

Now,” said the coaches, “the focus goes back to practice where we need to continue ti improve at every opportunity.”

The Bravettes took their record to 9-4. Sigourney is 5-11.

UP NEXT – Montezuma visits 12th-rated Belle Plaine (15-6) on Thursday evening, Oct. 8. The Bravettes have also rescheduled their match at Tri-County for Tuesday, Oct. 13.

NOTE – Thursday’s match at Belle Plaine is varsity-only for the Bravettes. Belle Plaine will be playing two matches that evening and officials say the Montezuma match will not start before 7:15 p.m. Fans will need to wear masks.
