Girls rally late and hold on for win

The Bravettes scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead, then held on in the seventh for a 5-4 varsity softball win over HLV on Monday, June 29.

The win stopped a brief skid by the Bravettes and moved Montezuma to 5-4 on the season.

The Bravettes took a 2-0 lead into the fifth, but HLV scored twice to tie the game.

Before the contest, Montezuma honored the two seniors in its program, Carissa Van Zee and Chloe Latcham.

Montezuma scored single runs in the first and four innings, while pitcher Kallie Robison was shutting out the Warriors.

Robison was a key to this win both with her hitting and pitching.

Kallie went two-for-three with three runs batted in.

In the pitcher’s circle, Robison threw all seven innings, yielding six hits and four runs, just one of which was earned. She walked two and struck out nine.

Latcham had one hit, a double.

Jadyn Sharer drove in a run with one hit and stole two bases.

Also getting a single apiece for the Bravettes were Van Zee and Izzy Roorda.

HLV fell to 2-6 on the season.
