BELLE PLAINE – Five-set volleyball matches are memory-makers.
That means the Bravettes will have something to discuss at their class reunions when the topic is HLV and the conference semifinals.
It went five sets and the Bravettes had to come from behind to win it, 3-2.
“We had to compete like crazy against a scrappy and well-coached HLV team,” said Bravettes coach Tim Burgess.
The match was played Thursday evening, Oct. 15. Scores for the Bravettes were 25-21, 25-27, 20-25, 25-20 and 15-9.
“To come back and win the final two sets showed a lot about our kids’ character,” Burgess said. “It also took a lot out of us.”
The Bravettes kept attacking. Shanae Wetering had 23 kills, Ash Krousie had 14, Korrinn Kehoe had 11 and Dylan Holland had nine.
Katie Reynolds set them up with 42 assists.
Krousie had nine digs and she and Reynolds had 19 successful serve attempts each.
HLV’s record stood at 12-9 after the match, but the Warriors had won seven of their previous eight coming in.
The Bravettes went to 11-6, and on to face top-seeded Belle Plaine about 20 minutes later.
“I loved how we hung in there when some things didn’t go our way,” Burgess said. “Sometimes, when you do the right things, it doesn’t work out and that’s what I felt happened a number of times against HLV.”
