Girls score early then hold off L-S

The Bravettes scored all their runs in the first inning, then held on to beat Lynnville-Sully, 6-5, on Senior Night in Montezuma on Friday, June 21.

The win gives Montezuma a two-game regular season series sweep against the Hawks.

Montezuma continued its winning ways with 8 hits.

Mya Smothers had two hits, including a double and a run batted in. She also stole a base.

Madison Van Zee had two hits and two runs batted in.

Chloe Snook had two hits and stole a base.

Getting one hit each were Vivian Cook and Izzy Roorda. Cook drove in two runs with hers.

Kam Schmidt didn’t get a hit but she drew a walk and stole a base.

The Bravettes were guilty of three errors.

Syd Burgess pitched the seven inning distance for Montezuma. She gave up 8 hits and 5 runs, 3 of them earned. She walked 5 and struck out 4.

The win lifted Montezuma to 8-7 on the season. Lynnville-Sully fell to 8-14.
