BAXTER – The Montezuma Bravettes did an excellent job of sharing the basketball, shot well, and scored a 54-45 win over Baxter on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Montezuma’s charts showed 15 assists on 17 made field goals – and that’s pretty hard to beat.
The Bravettes led 8-6 after one quarter and 23-18 at halftime. Then came a 16-8 third quarter for Montezuma and the Bolts couldn’t get enough stops on Montezuma the rest of the way.
The Bravettes shot a respectable .395 from the field, and a very good 9-for-12 from the line.
Guard Claire Erselius dropped in 18 points to lead the Bravettes, on 5-for 12 from the field – all three-point attempts.
Vivian Cook scored 14 points.
Montezuma was guilty of 27 turnovers and probably worked on that area of its game before hosting Iowa Valley in league play on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
The Bravettes squeezed a healthy 32 rebounds, Syd Burgess leading with 13 while Sophia Semprini had 8.
Lauren Larmore led in assists with five, while Burgess and Larmore led the way in steals with three each.
Larmore scored seven points and Semprini had six as the Bravettes posted a balanced scoring ledger.
The win lifted the Bravettes to 2-1 on the young season, while Baxter fell to 2-2.
