VICTOR – Somebody must have said something inspiring to the Bravettes between the first and second quarters of their game against HLV on Tuesday evening, Dec. 12.
Both teams came in with 2-2 league records, so the game had some meaning to both.
The Warriors led 9-7 at the quarter break.
But the Bravettes outscored their opponent 61-27 over the final three quarters, including 28-11 in the second quarter.
The Braves were not making many shots in the first quarter, but they aleady were starting on a game-long defensive presence.
Montezuma led 35-20 at halftime and 54-30 through three quarters.
The Bravettes wound up shooting a cool .369 for the game, but they limited the Warriors to .286.
The Bravettes also put four girls into double figures, led by Jadyn Sharer’s 21 points – all on three-point baskets.
The Bravettes also won the turnover battle, 9 to 19.
Ellen Cook scored 16 points for the Bravettes and Vivian Cook had 15. Shiressa Wetering was in with 10, to go with a team-high 8 rebounds.
Also, the Bravettes assisted on 19 of their 24 made field goals.
Montezuma anticipated well on defense and made 14 steals.
The win lifted Montezuma to 5-2 overall.
HLV fell to 3-3.
Montezuma hosts a solid Sigourney team on Friday evening, Dec. 15.
