Girls start fast, but EV comes back to win

NORTH ENGLISH – The Bravettes got away to a good start against English Valleys, scoring four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.

But that was as far as it got.

English Valleys scored 5 in the bottom of the third to tie the score, then the Bears kept going, taking a 10-5 win on Monday, June 16.

Each side had 8 hits, but a factor was seven stolen bases recorded by English Valleys.

Kam Schmidt had two hits, both doubles, and drove in three runs for the Bravettes. She also stole a base.

Chloe Snook had two hits.

Vivian Cook had one hit, a double.

Ellen Cook singled and strole a base, as did Lauryn Larmore.

Leah Urfer also had a base knock for the Bravettes.

Urfer pitched all 6.0 innings, giving up 8 hits and 10 runs, 5 of which were earned. She walked 5 and struck out 4.

For the Bears, Taylor Mikesell had two hits and three runs batted in.

Ava Gehrking had two hits and drove in a run.

Kaylynn Caster went the 7-inning distance in the circle for EV, allowing 8 hits and 5 runs, three of them earned.

Caster walked 5 and struck out 3.

Montezuma fell to 3-6 for the season. English Valleys advanced to 3-9.

UP NEXT – Montezuma was scheduled to host Colfax-Mingo on Thursday, June 19, and Keota the next evening.
