MONTEZUMA – The varsity Bravettes were all-around good in a 64-38 cruise past winless Iowa Valley on Tuesday evening, Dec. 9.
First, there was defense. The Tigers didn’t score in double figures in any quarter. The Bravettes had quarter leads of 18-3, 38-11 and 53-19.
Next might come overall fluidity on offense. The Bravettes assisted 16 of their 25 field goals and shot .439 from the field.
The Bravettes were balanced on the boards, with Syd Burgess and Sophia Semprini each grabbing seven caroms, while Letisia Wilson had five.
The Bravettes took care of the basketball, making just six turnovers.
A total of 19 steals by Montezuma doomed Iowa Valley to some of the futility they experienced on offense.
Three Bravettes reached double figures in scoring. Vivian Cook scored 18 points and added 8 assists.
Syd Burgess made herself a available in the post, and produced 17 points. She also had 7 rebounds, a total equaled by Sophia Semprini.
And Claire Erselius dropped in 13 points and added 6 steals and 4 assists.
The Bravettes took their overall record to 3-1, while going to 3-0 in South Iowa Cedar League play.
Iowa Valley fell to 0-6 overall.
