THORNBURG – The Bravettes got in some important work and Tri-County’s girls got a senior salute in front of their home fans.
Those were some of the things going on when Montezuma finished its regular season in volleyball with a 3-0 win on Tuesday evening, Oct. 13.
Scores for the Bravettes were 25-10, 25-9 and 25-17.
“We stretched ourselves with what we were focused on doing,” said Montezuma Coach Tim Burgess.
“We were emphasizing serve placement, better passing off of serve receive and better reads off our teammate’s blocks,” etc.,” The coach said.
The serving sure went well for the Bravettes. They were good on 67 of 71 attempts (.944), with 20 aces.
Four girls were good on 11 serves, with Ash Krousie connecting for six aces while Dylan Holland had four.
“Tonight was about us being purposeful with our goals and meeting our own expectations,” Burgess said.
Montezuma completed an 11-5 regular season, while Tri-County is 1-18.
“I was happy we were able to make up this match,” Burgess said. “Not only for our girls to play again, but for Tri-County to be able to have a senior night to honor their dedication.”
“Those are important things to do for any team whenever it’s possible and their kids played hard for the school,” Burgess said.
Now, it’s onward. “We have an exciting evening ahead of us on Thursday with an important practice on Wednesday,” Burgess said.
“Expectations don’t change. We focus on ourselves and being the best we can be in all we do,” he said.
UP NEXT – The finals of the SICL tourney, in Belle Plaine, on Thursday, Oct. 15. At 5 p.m., Belle Plaine takes on Colfax-Mingo, with Montezuma playing HLV about 20 minutes after the conclusion of that match. The two winners will then play for the SICL title.
