The Bravettes won their fifth invitational championship by taking first place in the Darrell Brand Invitational on Monday evening, May 10, on their home track.
Brand, the man the meet is named after, was the starter for the meet and led the victorious Montezuma team in his locally-famous “breakdown” drill after the meet.
We’ll have more details about the boys and girls portions of this meet later on Montezuma Magazine, and next week in The Record.
Meanwhile, both Montezuma teams are prepping for the state qualifier meet. That will be held in Belle Plaine, starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 13.
Teams involved: Alburnett, Belle Plaine, BGM, Central City, English Valleys, GMG, HLV, Iowa Valley, Meskwaki, Montezuma, North Linn, North Mahaska, Springville and Tri-County.
