Girls win Wanamaker meet for the team!

MARENGO – “It was wonderful to see the smiling faces on the victory lap. They have earned it!” said Bravettes girls track Coach Megan Carlson.

Montezuma used its depth to sweep to victory in the girls’ portion of the Rick Wanamaker Coed Invitational on Thursday, May 5.

This meet was kind of like the SICL meet on Tuesday, but without two (Colfax-Mingo and Lynnville-Sully) of the three teams that beat them there. The third, Belle Plaine, was here and Montezuma had a 124-106 margin over the Plainsmen.

For the Bravettes, it was a matter of getting everyone involved and then having some fun.

There are 33 Bravettes in the post-meet photo. Twenty-five of them posted team points in this meet.

All of the girls were able to compete and it showed, with many personal records and even a first place team finish,” Carlson said.

The big event for Montezuma was the 1,500-meter run, where seniors Rebeka Teumer (6:15.90) and Haley Van Der Hart (6:19.25) posted a one-two finish, picking up 18 team points for the Bravettes.

Montezuma also won the 4×400 and distance medley relays.

In the 4×400, Shanae Wetering, Izzy Roorda, Ellen Cook and Katie Reynolds clocked 4:38.82.

In the distance medley, Shanae Wetering, Reynolds, Roorda and Cook were timed in 4:56.96.

This group works hard, supports each other, and continues to improve with every meet,” Carlson said.

With only two meets remaining, the girls need to remain focused and enjoy all the moments.”

The girls will be ready to compete at home on Monday (May 9, Darrell Brand Relays), and enjoy all of the moments at a home track meet,” Carlson said.

Track can be a crazy season, dealing with weather and all of the other spring activities. We have been blessed with an amazing group of girls,” the coach said.
