Golfers have a successful opening

NEW SHARON – Montezuma’s boys won a three-team match, and individual players earned medalist honors in the first golf meet of the season on Monday, April 3, at Prairie Knolls Country Club.

The Braves shot 161 to defeat North Mahaska (171) and Lynnville-Sully (183.)

Montezuma’s Cruz De Jong was meet medalist, shooting a 38. Other Braves scores: Max Anderson 38 (medalist decided by criteria), Maguire De Jong 42, Carsten James 43, Owen Cook 44, Jack Erselius 48.

On the girls side, Montezuma’s Abby Pope was medalist with a 55. The Bravettes do not have enough golfers to qualify for a team score.

JV boys competed and that “added to their experience and mental competitive skills,” Coach Liesl Roorda said.

JV Braves scores were Brady Boulton 41, Tod Geiger 47 and Alex Black 50.
