Golfers fall short of state at district meet

IOWA CITY – The Montezuma High School boys golf team was not able to finish first or second in district competition on Thursday, May 20, at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course.

They did not qualify for state, thus their season is over.

It was not the best day and not the results we were hoping for, but we still had a great and fun season,” said co-head Coach Liesl Roorda. The Braves shot a team score of 371.

Eddie Burgess was low for the Braves with a 90. Other scores: Alex Cheney 92, Maguire De Jong 93, Trey Shearer 96, Jacob Ross 97 and Connor Van Zee 104.

Speaking for co-head Coach Randy Masterson, Roorda said, “we are proud of everyone on the improvements they made throughout the year.”

The coaches agreed that the players showed “tremendous dedication all year. A great group of guys!”

The coaches wished the seniors good luck in life after high school.

Trey Shearer studies his shot from the fairway.

We look to come back next year with yet another great season!” Roorda said.

Thank you everyone for the support you all showed throughout the season.”
