Good 2nd quarter propels 7th girls

The Montezuma Bravettes 7th graders beat North Mahaska 24-13 on Monday, January 11 at home.

The Warhawks jumped to a 4-0 lead as the Bravettes struggled to score.

Late in the first quarter, Haileigh Eichenberger hit a free throw jumper and Makenna Warden scored a power point to tie it 4-4.

The second quarter was the best for Monte, outscoring the Warhawks 12-4 to take a 16-8 lead to halftime. The scoring in the second half was low and the final was 24-13 for the Bravettes.

The Bravettes shot 12-60 for 20%. The Warhawks shot 6-42 for 15%. Eash team had 42 rebounds. Monte had 26 turnovers and North Mahaska had 36.

Lily Ferry played a strong game with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals and a block. Lindsey Henry led the team with 8 rebounds. She also had 4 points.

Makenna Warden had 4 points and a block. Haileah Eichenberger had 2 points and 7 rebounds. Chloe Snook had 2 points, 5 steals and 5 rebounds.

Kami Mathes had 2 points & 6 steals. Claire Erselius led the team with 4 assists. Kieran Perez had 5 rebounds.

The Bravettes move to 2-2 on the season. They travel to Baxter on Thursday, Jan. 14, for a 4:30 p.m. start.
