STATE CENTER – It was a slow start for the Montezuma JV basketball boys, but by game’s end, they were making some strides.
West Marshall outscored the Braves 52-22 on Monday, Nov. 25, in Montezuma’s non-counting Pride scrimmage game.
The Trojans led 27-1 after one quarter and 44-6 at halftime.
“We struggled early with West Marshall’s physicality and they got out to that big lead,” said varsity head Coach Derrick Dengler.
“As the game went on, we adjusted well,” said the coach. “We were able to make some good plays in the second half on both ends of the floor.”
Gavin Strong led Montezuma scoring with 10 points. Jacob Hutchcraft had five, Camden Michalek three, Cameron Johnson scored two, and Colton Benson and Owen Cook had a point each.
Benson led Braves rebounders with three, and Cook had an assist.
The Braves shot .273 from the field on nine-for-22. West Marshall was at .477 on 21-for-44.
The Braves were relatively close on turnovers with 16 compared to the Trojans’ 12.
But West Marshall had a 30-16 lead in rebounds.
