Great start, but tough finish for the Braves

Montezuma led 8-4 through four innings, but Iowa Valley reversed momentum late and took an 18-8 win in six innings over the baseball Braves on Monday, June 3.

The Tigers totaled 14 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to catch, pass and subdue the Braves.

Montezuma made 11 hits in the game, but also was charged with 7 errors.

Cruz De Jong had three hits, including his second home run of the season. He drove in two runs.

Jack Erselius had two hits and two stolen bases.

Breck Simpson had one hit and a run batted in.

Broox Stockman had a hit and stole two bases.

Getting one hit each were Luke Erselius, Gavin Wilcox, Easton Hudut and Lars Taylor.

Starter Luke Erselius pitched five innings, allowing 8 hits and 11 runs, 6 of them earned. He walked two, hit one batter and struck out seven.

Easton Hudnut pitched 0.2 of an inning, allowed one hit and 3 runs, all earned. He walked four.

Isaac Wedgewood pitched 0.1 of an inning, giving up 2 hits and 4 runs, all earned. He hit two batters.

The loss dropped Montezuma to 1-5 on the season, while Iowa Valley stood at 4-5 with the victory.
