We had a great team effort to start the year!
I was pretty pleased with our defensive effort. The guys pursued the ball well and for the most part, did their jobs.
Up front with Houston Van Roekel, Briar Simpson, Braxton Plants, Blake Smith, Isaac Wedgewood and Breck Simpson, we were able to get a good push and establish the line of scrimmage.
Controlling the line allowed for our linebackers to go make the plays we needed them to make. Broox Stockman, Brett Plants, Carter Michalek and Luke Erselius were able to read well and fly to where the ball was.
In the secondary, we were pretty solid. David Rose, Brady Boulton, Erselius, and Luke Brennan were able to get some key pass breakups and a few turnovers.
Overall a very solid defensive effort by the whole team. There are a few things to clean up, as is normal this time of year but it is a very good starting point.
On offense, we were a little out of sync on the first series but after that, we played very well.
Again we were able to control the line of scrimmage. Our linemen, which we rotated frequently, blocked and pulled well. Van Roekel, Briar Simpson, Plants, Smith, Wedgewood and Breck Simpson all got a significant amount of time.
We had a few holding calls that we need to clean up but a pretty solid effort here.
Our receivers, Rose, Michalek, Erselius, Brennan, Kohen Holland, Lars Taylor, and Breck Simpson did a good job of blocking and going to get the ball and win some one-on-one plays.
Our ballcarriers did a really good job of being patient with thier blocks and seeing the field. Brett Plants, Stockman and Boulton complement each other well when it comes to their running abilities. Boulton read the defense pretty well, there is one play he would like to have back but for the most part, he settled in nicely.
Erselius had a good night with kickoffs and our coverage was pretty good. We had some young guys out there on kickoffs and they stepped up well.
As I said earlier, it was a very good starting point however there is still work to be done.
