GRINNELL – Grinnell kept its line moving, and the Tigers scored an 11-1 softball win over Montezuma in five innings on a raw, windy Thursday evening, May 27.
The Tigers (2-0) scored four runs after two were out in the first inning to get a 4-0 jump on the Bravettes.
Montezuma (0-2), advanced runners to second base in each of the first two innings, but was not able to deliver the timely hit to chase them home.
Grinnell’s Ashlyn Imhoff got a drive up into an out-blowing wind for a two-run home run in the third. It was the start of a six-run Tigers rally.
The temperature at the start of the game was 50 degrees. The aforementioned win was blowing at 17 miles an hour, so it wasn’t a comfortable night at the ballpark.
Grinnell pitcher Ella Grife limited Montezuma to one hit, a single by Kallie Robison. Grife got an inning of relief in the fifth from Hannah Behrens.
Kallie Robison allowed just seven hits in five innings, but was victimized by two Bravette errors and a number of Grinnell stolen bases.
Robison worked four innings, with six of the 11 runs scored against her being unearned. She walked four and didn’t strike out a batter.
Grinnell’s previous win also was by an 11-1 score, over PCM on Monday evening.
UP NEXT – The Bravettes jump back into SICL play on Friday, May 28, at home, against Colfax-Mingo.
