Harriers battle viruses and runners

IOWA CITY – Montezuma’s cross country teams fought with viruses as much as the opposing teams at the Clipper Classic cross country meet at Kickers Sports Complex on Monday, Oct. 16.

Coach Kevin Gartman encouraged his runners to “drink your water and get your rest in order to do your best to keep the flu bug away.”

There’s a lot of sickness going around and I’d love to be breathing well at the end of this week and beyond,” he said.

I’m proud of how many battled through sinuses and stomachs. We can do hard things,” Gartman said.

The high school runners will compete in a rare Saturday meet on Oct. 5 at South Hardin. The meet starts at 9:30 a.m. at Pine Lake Country Club, and Activities Director Tim Burgess noted there will be a food truck serving on the grounds.
