Fun and fund raising go together sometimes – and now is a great time for that!
The entire Montezuma athletic department has joined forces with the Montezuma Blue and White Athletic Boosters to do a little bit of both.
The teams are making videos to support the cause and help the Boosters spread the word.
They’re offering t-shirts, through a Williamsburg company called Elite Sports, which does custom screen printing and embroidery.
Montezuma has a “team” store which you can access at the Elite Sports website.
Half the proceeds from the sale of each shirt will come back to Montezuma, directed to help Michael and Elizabeth DeJong with their project of making face shields for front line workers in the COVID-19 crisis.
“No one was made to do it,” said Montezuma Activities Director Tim Burgess, who pointed out that neither the athletic department or the Boosters will benefit from the sale of the shirts.
“People want to help,” Burgess said, “but they don’t know where to send money.”
Burgess said the school and Boosters aren’t pushing sales as much as just having fun making the videos and doing something to help.
“We want to put back into the community,” he said. “If we sold just five shirts, well, that would be fine,” he said.
Elite Sports says it has accounts with 150 high schools and colleges in Iowa. Here is how to get to the Elite Sports page: (Scroll down and you’ll see some of the videos the kids and coaches have made, too).
