Hawks add on vs. Braves, 15-4

MONTEZUMA – Lynnville-Sully’s highly-regarded baseball team played add-on with the Braves. But for a while, Montezuma hung with them.

The Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the first, but Montezuma plated 4 runs in the third to jump in front. The Hawk scored four time in the fourth to retake the lead. . .and so it went until the top of the seventh, with the visitors plated five runs to finish off a 15-4 win.

It was the home opener for Montezuma, on Tuesday, May 27.

The Hawks (2-0) made 11 hits – all singles – and were credited with 11 runs batted in on the night.

The Braves’ Luke Erselius hit a two-run double in the fourth inning.

Gavin Wilcox also drove in a run in the fourth with a base hit. Montezuma (1-1) had eight hits in all.

Junior Isaac Wedgewood pitched three innings and struck out three for Montezuma.

Wilcox threw three frames and struck out three batters.

Lannon Montgomery was the hitting star for the Hawks. He drove in 5 runs with two hits and scored 2 runs.

Jack Bowlin pitched 4.1 innings for the Hawks and struck out 8. Trace Carlson worked 2.2 innings and fanned 5.
