You saw HERKY out at the golf course?
If it was Saturday, June 15 at Montezuma Country Club, chances are you did see the University of Iowa mascot.
It was part of the first annual “Wave Fore the Kids” golf event at the country club. The end of the football first quarter wave to kids at nearby Stead Children’s Hospital has become a tradition at Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium, where Herky roosts in the fall.
Siraj Thomason, owner of The Longhorn Saloon in Barnes City, was the host at the local event.
Siraj said “I just wanted to let everybody know this was (and is) a public event. Everyone is eligible to donate, buy raffles for prizes and to hang out – AND – the pool will be open.”
