HLV rallies past Bravettes, 8-7

HLV scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on for an 8-7 win over the Bravettes in varsity softball on Friday evening, June 4, in Montezuma.

The win was the first of the season for HLV, which is now 1-3.

The Bravettes fell to 2-7.

Offenses dominated, as there were 29 hits in the ballgame, 17 of which were by HLV.

The Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Bravettes tied the score in the third. HLV scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but three runs by Montezuma in the fifth gave the Bravettes at 6-5 lead.

Neither team scored in the sixth. HLV put up three in the seventh. Montezuma scored one, but fell short by one run.

Three Bravettes had two hits each. Izzy Roorda was two-for-three with a double.

Laila Kercheval was two-for-four with a double and two runs batted in.

Kailey Shaffer was two-for-two with an RBI.

Abby Pope was two-for-three with three runs batted in.

Getting one hit each were Katie Reynolds, Madison Van Zee (one RBI), Ellen Cook and Kalynn Wanders.

The Bravettes were three-for-three on stolen bases, and made four errors, to two by HLV.

Kallie Robison pitched all seven innings for Montezuma. Of the eight runs she allowed, four were earned. She didn’t walk a batter and struck out three.

Aleya Roberts, Jasmine Young and McKenzie Kempf each had three hits for HLV, and three others had two each in their team’s 17-hit attack.

UP NEXT – Montezuma will be up early on Saturday, June 5, as the Bravettes travel to Keosauqua for two games. They play Van Buren at 10 a.m., and Davis County at noon.
