Honors come in for several Braves

Four Montezuma High School baseball players have been honored by selection to all-SICL or all-district teams.

Cole Watts and Eddie Burgess have been named to the all-SICL second team. Burgess also was an honorable mention all-district player.

Senior Brayden Arendt earned honorable mention on the all-SICL team.

Freshman Owen Cook was honorable mention all-SICL.

Watts, an outfielder and pitcher, hit .300 on the season. He had three doubles, two triples, a home run and 10 runs batted in. He further demonstrated his ability to reach base by being hit eight times by pitched balls, and walking eight times.

His 14 runs scored was second on the Braves.

Watts was 14-for-14 in stolen bases, tops on the team. He had an .879 fielding percentages.

As a pitcher, he appeared in six games and threw 15.0 innings. He allowed 17 hits, walked nine and struck out 16. His earned run average was 4.20.

Burgess had 19 hits, tops on the squad, and the top batting average at .380. He hit four doubles and two home runs and drove in 10 runs.

His 16 runs scored led the team, as did his 29 total bases. He was six-for-six in stolen bases.

Burgess, a shortstop when not pitching, fielded .956 on 45 total chances. He had 27 assists.

As a pitcher, Eddie threw 36.1 innings, tops on the team. He allowed 38 hits, walked 12, struck out 44 and posted an earned run average of 4.24.

Arendt, a senior, hit .295. He had four doubles and knocked in eight runs. He scored 13 times and was 11-for-11 in stolen bases.

Arendt, who played multiple positions, fielded .732 on 41 total chances.

As a pitcher, Brayden made four appearances and threw 9.0 innings. He walked seven and struck out five and posted an earned run average of 9.33.

Freshman Owen Cook stroked five doubles and his 14 runs batted in led the Braves. He was four-for-four on stolen base attempts.

Cook fielded .719 on 32 total chances.

As a pitcher, Owen appeared eight times and threw 26.1 innings, second on the team. He walked 14, struck out 17, and carried an earned run average of 4.78.
