Hoopsters preparing for second half

Montezuma’s two varsity basketball teams have spent part of the holiday break working on their press breakers and shoring up other areas of their games.

Both teams sit in third place in the SICL standings, each with one conference defeat.

Opposing presses hurt the Bravettes’ in losses to North Mahaska and Williamsburg.

Williamsburg also disrupted the boys with pressure in the Raiders’ non-conference win.

The Braves are anticipating the addition of some quality depth in January. Garrett Watts, who suffered a broken leg in football, has been rehabbing it, in hopes of making back to the hardwood.

The Braves also look forward to varsity eligibility late in the month for 6-4 Nik Kotar, an all-around talent who has been practicing with them and competing in some JV games.
