A vigil planned for missing boy

A vigil has been planned for missing 11-year-old boy Xavior Harrelson of Montezuma. The vigil was planned to start at 8 p.m. Monday, May 31, outside the Powshiek County Courhhouse.

Harrelson, who had a birthday over the weekend, was reported missing on Thursday, May 27.

A search party numbering in the hundreds was working on Sunday and Monday.

Poweshiek County law enforcement agencies, officers from other area counties, the Iowa Dept. of Public Safety, the Iowa Dept of Natural Resources and the FBI all were involved.

Harrelson hadn’t been seen since he left his home on Thursday morning.

On Friday, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation joined the case.

Law enforcement delayed involving the public in the search because of terrain in their initial area of interest was deemed unsafe for volunteers.

Anyone with information about the disappearance are asked to call a special number for the case at the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s office: (641) 623-2107.

Harrelson lives in the trailer park at the northwest edge of Montezuma.

At the time of his last sighting, he was wearing a red t-shirt, blue pajama pants and black high-top shoes.

Harrelson is described as 4 feet 8 and 100 pounds. He is a white male with brown hair and blue eyes.
