SULLY – Coming through in the clutch!
That was the story for the Montezuma junior high boys ‘A’ basketball team in a 49-47 win in overtime on Monday, Jan. 17.
“I was very proud of our effort and composure, especially late in the fourth quarter and into overtime,” Braves Coach Dennis Phelps said.
Brady Boulton led the charge with 27 points, which included three-three baskets and a six-for-seven effort from the free throw line.
“Brady got us off to a strong start with three straight three-point shots in the first quarter,” Phelps said. “His six-for-seven from the line came late in the fourth quarter and in the overtime.”
“Broox Stockman hit a big three-point shot late, but he was not able to play half the game because of foul trouble,” Phelps said.
Stockman still managed seven points, third high on the team.
“Dane (Strong) had his best game,” said Phelps. Strong scored eight points, second high for the Braves.
“Luke Brennan gave us great minutes with a number of hustle plays while Broox was in foul trouble,” Phelps said.
“Luke Erselius and Isaac Wedgewood continue to provide solid defense, rebounding and scoring on the inside,” said the coach.
“Lynnville-Sully played hard and the young James boys is a tough match-up with his inside play,” Phelps said.
The Braves were scheduled to play the next night in Belle Plaine.
