Montezuma got off to a fast start and didn’t have to look back in posting at 59-12 home win over Colfax-Mingo in junior high ‘A’ boys basketball on Monday, Jan. 31 at home.
The win took the A-team to 10-0 on the season.
“Good full-court and half-court defense helped ignite our offense,” said Montezuma Coach Dennis Phelps.
“The effort on defense, along with dominating both boards, led to a number of fast break opportunities,” the coach said. “We also were able to adjust and run various offensive sets to keep the Colfax-Mingo defense off balance.”
Brady Boulton and Broox Stockman led the offensive charge with 29 and 18 points, respectively. Boulton’s total included two three-pointers.
Isaac Wedgewood scored six points, Luke Brennan had 4, and Dane Strong scored 2.
“We did have more players involved at the offensive end,” Phelps said.
“I was proud of our mental and physical effort throughout the game,” said the coach.
The Braves were scheduled to play at Iowa Valey on Tuesday, Feb. 1. Their final contest will be at home on Thursday, Feb. 3, against Pella Christian. Starting time is 4:15 p.m.
