The Montezuma 8th grade ‘A’ boys pounded the boards and guarded people in a 52-5 home victory over English Valleys on Thursday, Jan. 21.
“Offensively, we corrected a lot of things from Tuesday,” said Coach John Beck. “We attacked the basket well and did the little things.”
The Braves got 18 points from Brady Boulton, along with eight rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Houston Van Roekel scored 11 points, and added five rebounds and five assists.
“I was very impressed with our shot selection,” Beck said. “We took the shots that we want in our offense and made great decisions to drive the ball. I thought we shared the ball really well and found the open shooter.”
Montezuma led 24-1 after one quarter, 37-3 at halftime and 45-5 after three quarters.
David Rose scored eight points for Montezuma. Max Anderson had six points, three rebounds and three assists. Bryson Stockman pulled down five rebounds.
“Our team defense was great,” Beck said. “i was really pleased with our help defense and our guards did a great job disrupting their ballhandlers.”
“This was our best effort on the boards all year,” Beck said. “There were a lot of one-and-done possessions for them.”
