The Montezuma Bravettes A-team traveled to BGM on Monday, December 9.
This would be a hard-fought game. Montezuma used its press and man to man defense while BGM also pressed and played a strong 2-3 zone.
The Bears defense stymied the Bravettes in the first quarter as they took a 6-2 lead. Both teams scored 4 in the second quarter to make the halftime score 10-6.
Defenses ruled the third quarter as Monte outscored BGM 3-2. So, the Bears held a 12-9 lead as we started the 4th quarter.
Lilly Bushong found Brylee Latcham who quickly swished a 3-pointer to tie the score at 12.
BGM would immediately answer to take a 14-12 lead. On the next possession, Mallory Warden was fouled on a 3-point attempt. Mall made 2 free throws to tie the score at 14.
BGM would then bank in a long 2 pointer and bank in a 3-pointer to take a 19-14 lead.
Brielle Haughey would find Brylee who swished another 3-pointer. This cut the lead to 19-17 with 3:45 left in the game. But Monte could not score another point. BGM would make one more basket to win 21-17.
Monte shot 6-34 (18%) from the field, 3-11 from the 3-point line and 2-3 on free throws. BGM shot 9-29 (31%) from the field, 1-2 from the 3-point line and 2-6 from the free throw line. Rebounds were tied at 25. Monte had one less turnover 19-18.
Brylee Latcham led the way with 9 points on three 3-point shots. She also had 3 steals and 1 block. Brielle Haughey had 2 points and 8 rebounds. Mallory Warden, Keegan Gunderson, & Baylea Smith each had 2 points. Kady Schmidt had 3 blocks. Lilly Bushong had a block.
The Montezuma Bravettes A-team moves to 3-2 on the season. They hosted Iowa Valley on Thursday, December 12 and will play Lynnville-Sully on Monday, December 16.
