SULLY – Montezuma’s junior high ‘B’ boys basketball team showed promise despite a 39-24 loss to Lynnville-Sully on Monday, Jan. 20.
Lynnville-Sully led 19-7 after one quarter and 29-15 at halftime.
“We had a slow start, but we were getting some good looks on offense,” Coach John Beck said. “In the second quarter we started getting into a rhythm that carried in to the third quarter.”
“We got to within four in the third quarter, but no closer.”
Carter Michalek scored 10 points for the Braves. David Rose had six, Spencer Ross scored four, and Peyton Minner and Landen Morrison each had two.
“David Rose attacked the rim well,” Beck said. “Payton Minner and Briar Simpson did a good job inside on defense. Spencer Ross hit a couple of great shots after kick-out passes,” Beck said.
“Bryson Stockman played some good defense and rebounded really well,” said the coach.
“We do need to take care of the ball a little better. But the boys really competed well and I saw positive things to build on.”
