NORTH ENGLISH – Montezuma’s junior high boys basketball ‘B’ team was a 32-18 winner over English Valleys Thursday afternoon, Jan. 23.
“The boys came out with a great effort and were very focused on both ends of the court, leading to great execution,” Coach John Beck said.
Carter Michalek scored 11 points. He made a three-pointer and was 4-9 on free throws.
Davis Rose scored eight, including a trey and 3-for-5 on free throws.
Kohen Holland scored four points, including a trey.
Spencer Ross added six points, while Peyton Minner and Jayden Ross each added two.
“Davis Rose and Carter Michalek did a great job of attacking and then finding the open post off of the drives,” Beck said. “Landon Morrison has done a great job recently in driving and taking care of the basketball.”
“We have also had some great passing on inbounds plays, getting us some layups,” the coach said.
“Kohen Holland and Jayden Ross were beneficiaries of some of those great passes, resulting in layups or being fouled,” Beck noted.
“On defense, I thought Bryson Stockman and Peyton Minner really stood out. They were physical on the boards and very active in getting deflections,” Beck said.
“Our guards up top did a great job with pressure and also made it hard to get entry passes to the post,” said Beck.
“Sammy Boughner, Jusiah Wetering and Briar Simpson also were very active on the boards,” the coach said.
