JH ‘B’ boys lose tough one, 28-26

Montezuma played a good half and a half that wasn’t as good. The result was a 28-26 loss to visiting Sigourney in junior high boy B-team basketball on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

We played a solid first half both offensively and on defense,” said Braves Coach Dennis Phelps, whose team led 18-10 at intermission.

In the second half, Sigourney played a 7th grader who played in the ‘A’ game, and he was a match-up nightmare for us,” the coach said.

We struggled to stop his offensive game, which in turn affected our rebounding and getting into any type of offensive flow.”

We stayed in the game, but were unable to get the ball back during the last minute to get one last chance to tie, or win with a three-pointer.”

Isaac Wedgewood led Braves scoring with 8 points. Easton Hudnut had 6, Rhett Pargeon had 5, Linkin Bru put in 3, and Blake Smith and Luke Brennan had 2 each.

Our attention to detail must improve when competing against better players” Phelps said.

I was very proud of the effort by each player. We were missing three players, which meant others had to play more minutes and they responded very well.”
