Coach John Beck saw some progress by his Montezuma Junior High boys ‘B’ basketball team, despite a 14-1 loss in two quarters to Belle Plaine on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at home.
“We came out and improved throughout the game,” Beck said.
One area was rebounding, where the Braves had a 10-7 advantage. Kiyren Jurgensen had three rebounds, while Blake Smith and Isaac Wedgewood had two each.
“We attacked the basket well and took the shots that we like in our offense,” the coach said. The Braves didn’t make any, however. Luke Brennan’s free throw was Montezuma’s only point.
“Our defense did a good job protecting the paint and we played some good help man defense,” Beck said.
“Overall, we took some good strides and we look to continue to improve,” he said.
