BROOKLYN – The junior high boys basketball “B” team lost a tough battle, 14-13, to BGM on Monday, Dec. 9.
BGM led 6-2 after one quarter and 8-6 at halftime. The Braves led 11-10 through three periods, but BGM emerged with the one-point win.
For the Braves, Kohen Holland led scoring with seven points. Carter Mickalek, David Rose and Jayden Rose had two points each.
”We battled really tough,” said Braves coach John Beck. ”We came back from an early deficit but could not hold on to the lead.”
”There were a lot of good things we did on defense,” the coach said. “Holding them to 4 single-digit quarters and pressuring the ball. I thought that Carter Mickalek, David Rose, Bryson Stockman, and Spencer Ross did a great job pressuring the ball from the guard spots.”
”We got some good rebounding from Peyton Minner, Briar Simpson, Landen Morrison and Holland,” Beck said. ”I saw a lot of improvement getting into proper positioning from Jayden Ross, Sammy Boughner, and Jusiah Wetering. We can still work on boxing out and containing drives to improve our defense,” the coach said.
“On offense, we did a good job attacking the hoop. I saw some good drives from our guards and our posts did a good job setting screens and rolling to the basket,” added Beck. ”One thing that we need to work on is driving with our off-hand and finishing through contact.
UP AND COMING – The JH Braves are in action again on Monday December 16th at Home against Lynnville-Sully.
