BROOKLYN – The Montezuma Junior High boys ‘A’ basketball team defeated BGM 34-26 on Monday Night, Dec. 9.
“We got a great team win,” said Braves Coach John Beck. “We got contributions from a lot of different athletes.”
The Braves led start to finish: 10-2 after one quarter, 13-7 at halftime and 25-10 through three quarters.
Garrett Watts led scoring with 14 points, while Tod Geiger put in 11.
Cruz DeJong scored five points, Landen Tyree had three and Jack Erselius put in one.
“As a team we attacked the rim really well,” Beck said. “We did a great job driving and screening to get great shots and also to get our teammates great shots. We put a lot of pressure on BGM’s defense and moved the ball well.”
“Garrett Watts did a good job getting to the rim and then finding the open man, the coach said. “Tod Geiger did a great job setting screens and rolling to the basket. Jack Erselius, Max Anderson, and Houston VanRokel did a great job moving the ball around and working the offense.”
“Cruz DeJong and Landen Tyree did a good job moving to the open spot and getting some great looks at the basket from 3-point land,” Beck said. “We do need to work on moving the basketball and driving with our off-hand, so we can continue to move the offense and be effective.”
“On defense, we did a great job putting pressure on the ball,” said the coach. “Watts, Erselius, Carter Mickalek and Kohen Holland all did a great job on defense.”
“I thought that DeJong, Geiger and Peyton Minner did a good job on the boards as well. We held them to 3 single digit quarters and if we continue to do that we will have success,” Beck said. I look for us to continue to improve moving and getting into the proper spots while on defense.”
