Montezuma’s junior high boys A basketball team started fast and didn’t look back in a 65-14 win over North Mahaska at home on Monday, Jan. 10.
“Our defense caused a number of turnovers and rushed shots, which led to fastbreak opportunities throughout the game,” said Montezuma Coach Dennis Phelps.
Brady Boulton poured in 32 points for Montezuma, while Broox Stockman scored 12.
“I was pleased with the effort all game long,” Phelps said. “It had been almost a month since we played.”
Phelps said the Braves will be busy in coming weeks because many of Montezuma’s opponents don’t start their seasons until after the holiday break.
Boulton’s 32 points included a trio of three-point baskets.
Other Montezuma scoring included 6 points each by Luke Erselius and Dane Strong, three from Luke Brennan, and two each from Isaac Wedgewood, Rhett Pargeon and Easton Hudnut.
