BELLE PLAINE – The Montezuma Bravettes junior high teams traveled to Belle Plaine on Tuesday, Jan. 19, to face the Plainsmen.
Belle Plaine only had 7 girls to play 6 quarters. The Plainsmen were not a highly-experienced team so we decided to play the 8th grade team two quarters followed by the 7th teams playing a full game.
The Bravette 8th grade mauled the undermanned Plainsmen, winning 29-2. Ten of eleven Bravettes scored. Shiressea Wetering led with 6 points. Ellen Cook and Kylee Larmore had 4 points. Addison Probasco, Elizabeth DeJong, Taya Sincox, Ava Pargeon, Harlea Pargeon, Taylor Wilcox and Madison Cheney each scored 2 points.
The Montezuma 7th grade had a much more exciting game with Belle Plaine. The Bravettes led 5-0 after the 1st quarter. Then, took a 13-6 lead to halftime as the Bravettes’ press turned into some defense into offense.
Belle Plaine played a 2-3 zone throughout the game. The young Bravettes struggled at first but continued to improve throughout the game. The final score was 25-13 in favor of Montezuma.
Montezuma shot 12-61 for 20% from the field. Belle Plaine was 6-22 for 27%. The Bravettes won the rebound battle 36-32.
The Bravettes forced 36 turnovers while only having 14 of their own.
Lily Ferry was a stat stuffer. She had a triple double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 12 steals and a block. Chloe Snook had 4 points & 5 rebounds.
Lindsey Henry had 3 points. Claire Erselius, Makenna Warden & Krista Cheney had 2 points.
The 7th graders move their record to 3-3 on the season.
