BELLE PLAINE – The Montezuma Junior High girls track team got to flex its muscles against strong competition in a meet at Belle Plaine on Thursday, April 22.
Running against some larger schools and some peer schools from the SICL, the Bravettes placed second in a nine-team field. Hudson won the meet with 169, to Montezuma’s 119.
Ellen Cook scored 28.5 team points for the Bravettes, while Chloe Snook had 26.
Cook won the high jump at 4 feet, 6 inches – a good performance in that event. She placed second in both the 800- and 1,500-meter runs, and anchored Montezuma’s winning 4×800 squad.
Snook won the 400 in 1:07.47, placed third in the 200-meter hurdles, second in the long jump and anchored a second-place 4×400 relay.
The Bravettes were solid in the relays, placing third or better in six of seven races.
